AFP Ottawa Philanthropy Awards honour families, youth and leaders for making a difference

A family who turned their young sonโ€™s cancer diagnosis into a mission to fund pediatric oncology care, a youth who found a sense of belonging through an after-school program, and the NHLโ€™s only legally deaf player โ€” advocating for accessibility and inclusion โ€” were among the honourees celebrated Wednesday evening.

Hosted by the Ottawa chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the evening recognized the โ€œheroes in our communityโ€ whose generosity and leadership are building a stronger city through their philanthropic contributions.

The event, presented by Foundation WCPD, was held at the National Arts Centre.

*This year marked the 10th and final top sponsorship by WCPD, which will remain involved at a lower level. WCPD founder and president Peter Nicholson joked that his wife, Anabel Bane, might โ€” โ€œif you twist her armโ€ โ€” agree to keep hosting their popular pre-event party at their home, complete with a feast of home-cooked Filipino food.
