A family who turned their young son’s cancer diagnosis into a mission to fund pediatric oncology care, a youth who found a sense of belonging through an after-school program, and the NHL’s only legally deaf player — advocating for accessibility and inclusion — were among the honourees celebrated Wednesday evening.
Hosted by the Ottawa chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the evening recognized the “heroes in our community” whose generosity and leadership are building a stronger city through their philanthropic contributions.
The event, presented by Foundation WCPD, was held at the National Arts Centre.
*This year marked the 10th and final top sponsorship by WCPD, which will remain involved at a lower level. WCPD founder and president Peter Nicholson joked that his wife, Anabel Bane, might — “if you twist her arm” — agree to keep hosting their popular pre-event party at their home, complete with a feast of home-cooked Filipino food.
